History in the Making

Learn History  (3 min read)

My last blog was about the origins of the Mother Earth Oracle.

Wit the year of the Tiger approaching in a week's time, I decided to look at the years of the Tiger before and see if we can see what history could tell us.

The tiger years that went past were the years of 1962, 1902, 1842, 1782 and 1722.

  • In 1962, the Sino-Indian war broke out in the autumn months. China won.
  • In 1902, the Mackay Treaty was signed between GB and China on September 5th which included the abolishment of extraterritoriality for foreign nationals.
  • In 1842, the First Opium War ended in China as the Treaty of Nanking was signed on August 29th.
  • In 1782, the largest collection of books in Chinese history was completed after it was ordered by the Qianlong Emperor for its creation in 1772. It took a decade to complete the Siku Quanshu, 四库全书.
  • In 1722, the Kangxi Emperor died and his son Yongzhen succeeded him. The new era was peaceful and prosperous.
What can the history of China teach us as the Mother Earth Oracle is used as a reference for 2022? The Chinese text is as follows:
岁壬寅年,高低尽得丰。

春夏承甘润,秋冬处处通

蚕桑熟吴地,谷麦益江东。

桑叶不堪贵,蚕丝却半丰

更看三秋里,禾稻穗重重。

人民虽富乐,六畜尽遭凶

There is good harvest for the top and low tiers of people. Water is nourishing during spring and autumn. The roads connect well during the autumn and winter months. The mulberry leaves grow well in the land of Wu. The grains flourish in Jiangdong.

The mulberry leaves are not selling and the production is not lush as desired. The people seem prosperous. The 6 animals see harm upon them.

Is history in the making as we consult the verses of the Mother Earth Oracle? Did the Chinese sages see it earlier?
